The Importance of Foreign Object Contamination Prevention

Foreign object contamination in powder processing is a critical issue, as it can significantly affect product quality and safety. This is especially important in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, and chemicals, where contamination may lead to product recalls and a loss of brand trust.

Three Essential Measures for Contamination Control

Addressing the risk of foreign object contamination requires a comprehensive approach from the following three perspectives:

  • Preventing foreign objects from entering from external sources (Entry Prevention)
  • Preventing the generation of foreign objects within the system (Source Control)
  • Making foreign objects easier to detect (Enhanced Detectability)

Solution Proposals / Introduction to Foreign Object Contamination Prevention Technology

We would like to introduce EIRICH’s technologies designed to address the risks of foreign object contamination.

  1. Entry Prevention
By reducing the number of openings during processing, the risk of foreign objects entering from external sources is significantly reduced.
Note: There are even cases where the number of openings during processing has been reduced to zero.
  2. Source Control
By improving the design of mixer components that are prone to wear, the generation of foreign objects from within the system is prevented.
  3. Enhanced Detectability
The flat structure of the mixing container contributes to the early detection and removal of foreign objects.

Minimizing Openings Through the One-Pot Process

Measure: 1. Entry Prevention
EIRICH mixers can perform multiple processes—mixing, granulation, kneading, coating, and more—with a single machine.Because material transfer between process steps is unnecessary, the frequency of openings is minimized.

Anti-Adhesion Measures to Prevent Unnecessary Openings

Measure: 1. Entry Prevention
EIRICH’s anti-adhesion technology reduces the need for manual scraping of materials during processing, thereby minimizing unnecessary opening and closing of the container.
For more details, please refer to the case studies on “Anti-adhesion Technology.”

Wear Protection for Stirring Tools to Prevent Metal Contamination

Measure: 2. Source Control
Applying wear protection to stirring tools prevents metal contamination, extends tool life, and reduces maintenance costs.
Options include carbide-tipped beaters and hardfacing (overlay welding).
Note: These are optional features.

Easy Replacement of Wear-Prone Pan Sealing (Seal for Mixing Container)

Measure: 2. Source Control
The simplified exchange structure allows pan seals to be replaced without tools.
This reduces the risk of contamination from worn materials, and maintaining the condition of the Pan sealing also contributes to preventing external contamination.

Flat Structure of the Mixing Pan to Eliminate Blind Spots

Measure: 3. Enhanced Detectability
The flat, easy-to-clean structure eliminates blind spots. With no hidden areas, foreign objects are easier to detect, while the high cleanability of the equipment is maintained.
This design improves both contamination detection and cleaning efficiency.

Recommended Products

Eirich Intensive Mixer is a high-speed mixer and granulator designed for a wide range of processing tasks involving raw materials, mixtures, and compounds.Optimal material processing is achieved by selecting the appropriate mixing tool shape and rotation speed according to the application.
By adjusting the operating conditions, a single machine can handle multiple processes such as mixing, granulation, kneading, and slurry preparation. The mixer features a jacketed mixing pan for both cooling and heating, and offers a wide range of customizable options to accommodate various processes.

Advantages of the Eirich mixing principles

  1. Eccentrically positioned rotor tool (mixing tool)
The rotor tool shape, rotation direction, and speed range can be selected to suit the application.
  2. Tool Set (scrapers)
It scrapes off raw materials adhering to the inner wall and bottom of the mixing pan, while simultaneously promoting efficient material transfer to the rotor tool.
  3. Mixing Pan (mixing vessel)
Through rotation, all raw materials in the mixing pan are continuously supplied to the rotor tool.

Unique Mechanisms

  • Short mixing time and high homogeneity
  • Capable of processing raw materials with varying specific gravities
  • The rotating mixing pan promotes material movement and reduces residue.
  • By selecting the rotor tool shape and adjusting the mixing pan speed, the system can handle complex material processing
  • Process integration enables compact and energy-efficient production systems
  • Setting optimal operating parameters ensures consistent and reproducible material processing
