Struggling with the treatment of collected dust?

As global concern for a sustainable society increases, environmental regulations continue to tighten year by year.
Dust generated during various manufacturing processes poses unique challenges: its fine particle size causes it to scatter easily, and its low flowability makes storage and transportation difficult. These issues not only increase processing costs but also affect working conditions. As a result, the proper treatment and resource recovery of dust and waste powder have become critical concerns in the manufacturing industry.
Our mixing and granulation technology offers an effective solution to these challenges and is widely applied across various industrial settings.

Solution Proposals / Processing Example for Improving Handling Properties and Resource Recovery through Granulation of Collected Dust

The Eirich Intensive Mixer is a high-speed mixer and granulator that can perform multiple powder processing tasks, such as mixing, granulation, kneading, and coating, all in one machine (one-pot process).
We have a proven track record in the treatment of dust collected by dust collectors, such as steelmaking dust and electric arc furnace dust, and have contributed to the effective utilization of various by-products generated in manufacturing processes.

This report will focus on introducing examples of the granulation process. The following are the challenges and benefits that are particularly expected to improve through the granulation process.

Challenges Addressed by Granulation Advantages of Granulation
Dust scattering, leading to poor working conditions Prevention of scattering and improvement of workplace conditions through granulation
Dust generated during drying, creating inhalation risks. Reduction of health and safety risks by minimizing dust generation
Clumping due to moisture or condensation, making handling and storage difficult. Improved transportation efficiency through better flowability and easier storage
Variations in composition and irregular particle shapes affecting downstream processes. Enhanced performance in downstream processes through homogenization and stabilization
Difficulty in recycling or reusing materials in powder form. Promotion of resource recovery and reuse by improving handling properties
Large processing volumes, increasing disposal and transportation costs. Lower disposal costs through volume reduction and reuse

Through optimized operating conditions, particle size and granule strength (or granule hardness) can be adjusted for your application.

Powders Before Processing

In this case, heavy calcium carbonate powder is used as a sample for the granulation process. In practice, collected dust presents multiple physical challenges, such as dust scattering, poor flowability, and difficulties in storage and feeding.
Moreover, because its properties and moisture content vary with the source and conditions, building a stable processing system remains a technical challenge.

After processing (1-3mm granules)

Challenges: Preventing dust scattering, improving handling properties
We added a binder (water) to the test powder and produced 1–3 mm granules, suitable for feeding into subsequent processes and preventing scattering.
The intensive mixer not only consolidates multiple processes into a single unit, but also features the ability to easily change operating conditions via a touch panel, which is one of its key features.

After processing (3-6mm granules)

Challenges: Adjustment of particle size, improvement of handling properties, and enhancement of storability
We added additional binder to the granulated 1–3 mm particles and, by adjusting the operating conditions, produced 3–6 mm granules with excellent handling and storage properties.
Operating conditions can be easily adjusted via the touch panel, allowing particle size and granule strength (or granule hardness) to be flexibly tailored for different applications. You can try the performance of our equipment at our Technical Center using our test machines.

Recommended Products

Eirich Intensive Mixer is a high-speed mixer and granulator designed for a wide range of processing tasks involving raw materials, mixtures, and compounds.Optimal material processing is achieved by selecting the appropriate mixing tool shape and rotation speed according to the application.
By adjusting the operating conditions, a single machine can handle multiple processes such as mixing, granulation, kneading, and slurry preparation. The mixer features a jacketed mixing pan for both cooling and heating, and offers a wide range of customizable options to accommodate various processes.

Advantages of the Eirich mixing principles

  1. Eccentrically positioned rotor tool (mixing tool)
The rotor tool shape, rotation direction, and speed range can be selected to suit the application.
  2. Tool Set (scrapers)
It scrapes off raw materials adhering to the inner wall and bottom of the mixing pan, while simultaneously promoting efficient material transfer to the rotor tool.
  3. Mixing Pan (mixing vessel)
Through rotation, all raw materials in the mixing pan are continuously supplied to the rotor tool.

Unique Mechanisms

  • Short mixing time and high homogeneity
  • Capable of processing raw materials with varying specific gravities
  • The rotating mixing pan promotes material movement and reduces residue.
  • By selecting the rotor tool shape and adjusting the mixing pan speed, the system can handle complex material processing
  • Process integration enables compact and energy-efficient production systems
  • Setting optimal operating parameters ensures consistent and reproducible material processing
